He may put up a front, a show of how tough he is, but Bakugou's not bulletproof...he's still very human, and he can feel emotional and mental pain just as well, if not worse than physical. He thinks so highly of himself, acts that may, but...he's really scared under it all, isn't he? Maybe he tries so hard all the time, does so much and works so hard...is because he's scared.
