Hello, everyone!! I'm not here right now - probably in class or with my friends! Or on a mission. Um...leave me a message here and I'll get back to you soon, okay? Bye!!
Oh... I know Gareth-san, she's very kind, but. I'm really not very good with my elemental magic at all...but I'd be happy to train with you a bit. It's just... It's very unpredictable sometimes, so I've been...reluctant to use it much... ^^;;; I don't want to hurt anyone by accident.
[Bennett please. Though Ochako isn't too fussed about that sort of thing too much. She has a friend who can light half his body on fire at will, and Bakugou also burst into flames with his new elemental magic once and was fine, so it's...fine?? Maybe???]
Eh...ehehe, that does sound like a problem a few people do have with it. B-But um...I'd be more than happy to help you practice! I really do want to learn how to use it, since I feel it's a great and powerful magic type, but...I'll be honest, I'm nervous to use it sometimes. [She rubs at the back of her neck in embarrassment. It's never easy admitting your faults and fears, especially for Ochako. She wants people to think she's strong, and capable - like how a hero should be.] Though, I suppose your healing magic would be really, really useful when training, too...hm.
Okay!! Whenever you want to train, just let me know! My schedule isn't too busy most days, though I do practice martial arts at least two days a week with someone I met here.
Now? Mmh, I guess I could...I'm really not doing much else.
[Neither did she have anything planned. Nothing really needed to be cooked today - she and the girls are just having leftovers from the previous night - and Ochako already did her cleaning/chores earlier today. She pretty much has time to do whatever now.]
The training grounds, is that alright? I can be there in maybe twenty minutes? I just need to change...
[Bennett, please...you really need to get your phone fixed asap. There's a quiet snickering from Ochako before she turns off her phone and places it aside so she can get ready. Just a quick change into some better suited attired - a bit of workout/fitness gear - and she's on her way toward the training ground to meet up with Bennett.
And, when the two do meet up, she's...not the only one. Bennett will also see the girl's familiar with her as well - the large white dire wolf, Aludra, snuffling at Ochako's clothes and licking her face and hair...mussing it up terribly.]
Urgghh...Aludra-san!! P-Please, you're...your breath-- [IT SMELLS SO BAD. IT SMELLS. SO BAD.] Why're you--...ugh!! It's only been a few days, and you were the one that disappeared!! Stoooop! My hair!! Gross!
[Bennett had been waiting at the appointed place for Ochako to arrive. He arrived a bit too early, so he'd been amusing himself by playing with his familiar. ...Which means squishing the seelie between his hands and listening as it makes blorping sounds. The familiar didn't seem to mind though, even making excited chirps between the blorps.
But when he hears Ochako's voice, he looks in her direction, only to see what looks like, from his perspective, her getting attacked by a giant wolf.]
Ochako?! Hold on, I'll help you! Just fall to the ground and stay still and I'll lure it away from you!
[Looking up when she hears a shout, Ochako pushes at the muzzle of the large canine - about the size of a draft horse, really - who seems completely nonplussed as another human races over toward it. Aludra's always been pretty lax around people, only really getting excited when she sees people Ochako herself is especially close to - like the other girls from home, as well as Bakugou, Deku, and a new friend she made in this world, too.
Her head tilts to one side, large, pointed ears twitching. Excuse you, what?]
Eh? What're you--...oh!! Oh, Bennett-san, I'm fine, really!! It's okay, so please don't hurt her! [Seriously. For as lax as Aludra is most of the time, she can get pretty fucking fierce pretty fucking quick if she feels threatened or insulted.] This is, um...ehehe. I-It's my familiar.
[Thankfully, Bennett hadn't drawn his weapon or anything. He was fully planning on coming over and making himself into a chew toy so she could escape. But when Ochako says it's fine and the wolf is her familiar, he pauses in his tracks and gawks at the beast.]
This wolf is your familiar? Whoa... I had no idea they could even get that big! That's awesome! Poor Fors here's tiny compared to her.
[He gestures to his own familiar, the red seelie that had been following behind him, barely bigger than a human head, and hardly imposing-looking in the slightest.]
[Bennet, no. Not that Aludra would have attacked or anything - she'd probably just grunt and bop him with one of her gigantic paws - but best not to test the patience of a large, predatory animal and a very proud fae creature. The dire wolf blinks, tilting its head with a curious sound before yawning and draping a paw over Ochako, trying to tug her close again, which makes the girl stumble a bit.]
Agh--! Y-Yes, she's called, um...a dire wolf? I think? Apparently they get quite big - bigger than the average wolf, a-as I'm sure you can guess, ehehe. H-Her name makes much more sense, too, now that I really think about it. Aludra is a star in the constellation Canis Major - the Greater Dog - where I'm from.
Yours is really cute, though!! Um...what is it? [It looks kind of like a blob with little ears...]
[Bennett watches Aludra with mild curiosity. He's no stranger to wolves, seeing as his best friend is a member of a wolf pack back in their world and he's learned a lot about their behavior from him. So to see a wolf act so... friendly to its master, almost like a giant dog, is kind of baffling to him.]
Ah, well, this is Fors! [Bennett holds out his hands and the semi-translucent creature comes to rest in them.] He -- or she, I'm not really sure how to tell their gender -- is a seelie! I used to see them around in my world sometimes when I'd go adventuring, and supposedly they'll lead you to hidden treasure! ...Except they usually just lead me on wild goose chases. [Just his luck, right?] But maybe things'll be different here! Someday, at least...
[Aludra is as much a wolf as she is a very intelligent being. She's sentient, after all, and has spoken to Ochako in her mind--...erm, heart? Soul? She's not quite sure what part, but Ochako has heard the voice of the great wolf spirit nonetheless. Even if Aludra isn't always helpful, and does things in her own way, she's wise and strong. Definitely not just an animal.
Leaning in, Ochako turns her head to one side and gives the blob a little poke (if allowed), smiling and giggling. It's kind of cute, actually.]
Uwaah, so it's a bit like a good fortune charm sometimes, huh? [For those that don't have terrible luck like Bennett, anyway.] Ehehe, it's so cute!! Hello, Fors-san! You're kind of like a little pudding...or Jell-O.
[Fors is surprisingly and consistently warm to the touch, like a freshly roasted marshmallow. It reacts to Ochako's poke, waving its stubby arms in the air and letting out a low but cheery trill. Its "face" is expressionless, so that might just be the only indication that Ochako is doing okay with it.]
You think so? Haha, maybe so! Even if Fors doesn't ever lead me to any treasure, I feel pretty lucky just having him around. It's thanks to him that I can do the stuff I do here, after all!
[Oh gosh, it's so cuuute!! Ochako giggles even more at the adorable display, despite the thing not having a face, it still acts pretty dang cutely, so she's gonna treat at something cute. In all honesty, she'd probably do the same with a dragon if it were acting friendly though - her idea of 'cute' varies like crazy.]
Mm, same with Aludra-san, even if she's kind of a brat sometime. [The wolf grunts, blowing a puff of air from its nose into Ochako's hair, effectively mussing it up. As the girl squeaks the wolf passes the two by and goes to lay down in the shade.] Eehh...see what I mean?
Hrrm, a-anyway, Bennet-san, you wanted to train a bit, yeah? H-How much of your magic can you use at once? I mean, show me what it is you can do!! [Aka, you go first.]
[Bennett can't help but laugh a little at Aludra's behavior. She was certainly a bit of a diva, wasn't she? But it was charming.]
Haha, well, at least she'll always keep you on your toes?
[But right, they came here to train. Bennett raises his familiar into the air, Fors floating off to where Aludra was to go check on the wolf. It was every bit as fearless as its master was, perhaps even moreso.]
Ah, right. I've been practicing a bunch trying to get the hand of using it intentionally, but...
[He holds up a hand, and it seems to ignite in a burst of flames.]
This is about the best I can manage, usually. Which is pretty cool if I want to punch stuff, but it doesn't really do me much good outside of that...
[He doesn't even seem the slightest bit perturbed over his hand being on fire.]
[Keep her on her toes...that's for damn sure. At the least, nothing overly bad has happened with her elemental magic since the first few times, other than the fatigue and natural exhaustion that comes with it. And the nausea, but she can more or less handle that, even if it's gross. Hopefully, though, Ochako can learn some control of the output of her magic - making a small campfire instead of a blazing wildfire. A splash of water instead of a torrential downpour - things like that. Moderation, so as not to wear herself out so fast.
Seeing the burst of flame appear in Bennett's hand, Ochako only jumps for a moment, then blinks in awe. It's a bit weird to see people control fire that aren't Bakugou or Todoroki, so there's always that split-second shock before it dissolves into admiration.]
Oooh... See, that's actually what I want to learn to do! Something small and controlled. All the elemental magic spells I've used have been big and cover a huge area... [Massive AOE spells she can't really control.] I'd love to learn something simple like just lighting a candle or heating up a cup of tea or something... But--
...Eh. Ah, um, B-Bennett-kun. Is...um. I-Is your hand okay? [The skin is getting kind of red, isn't it? Ochako assumed his magic wouldn't burn him - hers doesn't, and so many of her other friends' magic doesn't but...this guy...]
Ahh, see, I'm the opposite. I've got a sword for small stuff, I wanna be able to do things like big explosions or thunderstorms, or a tornado like the one you did! Just without me getting caught in it, haha.
[Which is where it ultimately boils down to different priorities for them. Bennett's a fighter and an adventurer, having more ways to fight and defend himself just seems natural to him.]
Eh? Is my hand okay? [He says that, almost as if he has no clue what she's talking about. But eventually it clicks for him.]
--Oh! Nah, my hand is fine. It's just magical fire, see? [He waves the hand around in the air, and the fire shifts around with it. As if that's proving something.] It doesn't hurt me or anything like that. Which is probably a good thing, with how many times I've accidentally lit myself on fire already!
[But with how high his tolerance for pain is, there's a strong probability that he might not even notice if it was hurting him.]
Oooh...I'd love to learn to use a weapon like that one day... I know how to fight hand to hand, but having maybe a more ranged weapon would be useful, too.
[In the cases she can't use her magic. Knowing how to fight and defend herself is great, but also having a weapon - or being trained to use one - wouldn't hurt either. Not as an adventurer, but as a Hero. Their paths may not be the same, but the end result sure is.
Watching Bennett wave the fire about his hand, Ochako seems to calm a little bit. Okay, so he's like Bakugou then - his own fire doesn't burn him. Ochako wonders if hers is the same - she never really tried, but it'd make sense that she'd be at least partially immune to the elements she calls and creates, after all. She hasn't been burned or zapped by her own fire and lightning, so maybe there's some value to that.]
Ah...eh. I-I'm glad, but...please try to be careful? Y-You don't want to accidentally set someone else on fire, right? O-Or destroy something important. [Like your replacement phone.] B-But let me try to do something like that, too!! A little flame like that.
[Nodding, and perked up by the boost of confidence, Ochako huffs a little bit to sort of psyche herself up - deep breath in and out - then glances at her familiar who has taken to laying off to the side in the shade to rest. Aludra's one eye open, feeling Ochako gaze on her, and she flicks an ear and yawns. ...Yeah, shouldn't have expected anything helpful there.]
O-Okay, I'm gonna do it!! Just...a little flame. [flexing her fingers a bit, Ochako concentrates, digging into the pool of magic in side herself and slowly, slowly letting her fingers dip in. The tips glow red hot, and there's a sudden burst of flames right in the palm of her hand, like dumping alcohol on a hot skillet.] Uwaah!! B-B-Bright!
[But, thankfully, the flame starts to die down after the first few seconds, flickering erratically as Ochako strains to keep it managed.]
[The cheering is really, really nice, and Ochako does smile a bit - she definitely does react to some positive reinforcement and praise - but it's easy to tell she's actually focusing pretty hard on maintaining an even flame. Her brows are knit together, lips pursed into a hard line, and her eyes are glued on that little flame that seems to keep dancing in her palm...crackling and popping wildly like it's just waiting to explode outwards.]
Haah...wh-why's it so hard to...maintain a small thing like this?
[You'd think a bigger blaze would be harder, right? At least Ochako does, but a smaller flame actually takes way more control and reigning in that power...which she doesn't have a handle on at all. The 'output' of her magic is always dialed right up to ten and stuck there, so turning it down to something like a two or a three...takes work. After a while, she lets the flame die out and sighs.]
How do you manage to get your magic to work like that, Bennett-kun? I'm trying to mimic a friend that has control over fire, but...I mostly see him use it at max power, and I don't really know how he ignites it...
I'm... probably not the best person to ask about that, haha.
[Bennett awkward scratches the back of his head.]
You see, back home, I've got what's called a Vision. [He reaches down and curls his fingers around the red jewel attached to his bag.] With it, I can use fire to fight! So even though it doesn't work here, I guess fire comes naturally to me? Maybe a little too naturally...
